Answers to Common ConnectER Questions

Can I make a ConnectER telemedicine Program appointment?

In order to be eligible for a ConnectER Program appointment, you must meet the following criteria:

  1. You have been discharged from The George Washington University Hospital Emergency Department within the past 15 days OR
  2. You are a current patient of the GW Medical Faculty Associates AND 3) You are in the District of Columbia, Maryland, or Virginia at the time of your appointment.

When are appointments available?

Appointments are available Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Other appointment times may be available depending on provider scheduling.


How much does an appointment cost?

Each appointment is a $35 flat fee.

How long does my appointment last?

Each appointment is approximately 15 minutes long.


What if I need more time?

Appointments can go longer than 15 minutes based on patient and provider needs at no additional charge.


Will my insurance cover this appointment?

At this point in time, we do not accept any insurance coverage for the ConnectER Program.


Who are the providers that will see me during my appointment?

Your appointment will be made with one of GW Hospital's Emergency Department providers.


Do I need to be connected to the internet in order to participate in my video appointment?

Yes. No matter what device you are using to connect to your video appointment, you must be connected to the internet.

Do I need access to wireless internet (WiFi) in order to participate in my video appointment?

Yes. If you are using a mobile device, such as an iPad, iPhone, or Android device, to connect to your video appointment, you must be connected to wireless internet (WiFi) for the video component to work.


What happens if I need to reschedule my appointment?

We prefer that you reschedule your appointment at least 24 hours ahead of time, but there is no fee for appointment rescheduling, including last minute rescheduling. You can call one of our WECC Operators at 202-677-6421 to reschedule your appointment.


What happens if I need to cancel my appointment?

There is no fee for appointment cancellation, including last minute cancellations and no-shows. You can call one of our WECC Operators at 202-677-6421 to cancel your appointment.


What happens if I lose connection in the middle of my appointment and am unable to log back in to finish my appointment during my scheduled time?

If your appointment cannot be reconnected immediately, we can reschedule your appointment at no additional cost. You can call one of our WECC Operators at 202-677-6421 to reschedule your appointment.


Can I use the ConnectER Program service if I am having a medical emergency?

The ConnectER Program is not a substitute for emergency care. If you or someone else is experiencing a life-threatening emergency, immediately call 9-1-1.


What happens if my medical needs cannot be met by my telemedicine appointment?

We may advise you to return to a local Emergency Department if the physician or staff of the ConnectER Program feels it is in your best interest. We may recommend that you make an in-person physician appointment if the physician or staff feels that the medical attention you require is outside of the scope of the services provided by the ConnectER Program.


What if I have an additional medical issue other than the one I was referred to ConnectER Program for?

We may recommend that you make an in-person physician appointment if the physician or staff feels that the medical attention you require is outside of the scope of the services provided by the ConnectER Program.
