Important Inauguration Activity Information for GW Hospital Patients and Visitors

The George Washington University Hospital (GW Hospital) will remain open and fully operational throughout the entire 2017 Presidential Inauguration weekend.

Inauguration activities begin Thursday, January 19 and continue through Saturday, January 21, 2017. During these times, there will be significant crowds, road closures and transportation delays. The full list of road closures, perimeter map and transportation information is available at http://www.inauguration.dc.gov. Note that these can change at any time.

Accessing the Hospital:

  • Due to road closures, all patients and visitors should plan their travel route to the hospital. Access across the National Mall will not be possible. The best route to approach GW Hospital is from Northwest.
  • Metro will be fully functional and the Foggy Bottom Metro Station will remain open throughout the Inauguration.
  • The main hospital entrance (lobby entrance above Foggy Bottom Metro Station) may be closed at times during the weekend. During that time, patients and visitors can enter the hospital through the ER entrance located on 23rd street at Washington Circle.

Parking:

  • The parking garage in the Science & Engineering Hall (SEH) on H Street NW between 23rd and 22nd Street will be open.
    • Drivers will need to get past a manned barrier to access this garage.
    • Expect to have to show a Government issued identification and explain your reason to park in the garage.
    • Security at these barriers may elect to look through your car.
    • Due to heavy volume, we cannot guarantee that parking will be available. Please plan accordingly.

Cafeteria:

  • There will be at least one food service option available at all times.

Outpatient Hospital Locations:

  • All outpatient GW Hospital locations will be closed on Friday, January 20, 2017.

For Patients Leaving The Hospital:

  • Public transportation is highly recommended as it may be difficult to access the hospital

Thank you for your cooperation and flexibility as we prepare for this event. We will continue to keep you updated with any new details that become available.
