Showkat Bashir

Showkat Bashir, MD, specializes in gastroenterology. His areas of clinical interest and expertise include interventional endoscopy, colon cancer prevention, diagnosis and treatment of pancreaticobiliary disorders and endoscopic ultrasound. Dr. Bashir is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Gastroenterology at The George Washington University.

After receiving his medical degree at the University of Kashmir in India, Dr. Bashir completed his Internal Medicine residency at the State University of New York, Stony Brook. He completed his advanced fellowship training program at the combined Georgetown University, VA Medical Center and NIH program. Before he joined the faculty at The George Washington University in 2004, he was an instructor in medicine at Nassau University Medical Center, New York.

In addition to his academic accomplishments, Dr. Bashir has authored several medical scientific publications, given numerous presentations and received several local and national awards.

Dr. Bashir is a member of multiple medical associations, including the American Gastroenterology Association, American College of Physicians, and the American College of Gastroenterology.

Dr. Bashir is board certified in gastroenterology and hepatology.
