Shawn M. Howell, MD, is a board-certified interventional cardiologist. She specializes in adult cardiovascular medicine, cardiac catheterization and percutaneous coronary intervention, and has particular interest in small vessel disease, women and heart disease, pregnancy-related heart disease and pulmonary hypertension. She also is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease, cardiovascular computed tomography and nuclear cardiology.
Licensed in the District of Columbia and Maryland, Dr. Howell has treated patients in the DC metropolitan area since 2005. She is currently an attending physician at The George Washington Hospital where she received a service excellence award in 2012. She also treats patients at Washington Hospital Center, Providence Hospital and Washington Adventist Hospital.
A native of Baltimore, Maryland, Dr. Howell earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Loyola College and received her medical degree from the University of Maryland School of Medicine. Following her residency in internal medicine at Hahnemann University in Philadelphia, PA, she served as a chief resident in the residency training program. She completed fellowship programs in cardiology and interventional cardiology at The George Washington University Hospital. During her cardiology fellowship she was named chief fellow of Cardiology.
Dr. Howell is active in community outreach programs and educates people about the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular disease.
