GW University Hospital Names New CEO

Jason BarrettThe George Washington University Hospital today announced that, effective August 18, 2025, Jason Barrett, FACHE, has been named to the role of Group VP, District of Columbia market and CEO, The George Washington University Hospital. In his market capacity, Barrett will have oversight of the newly opened Cedar Hill Regional Medical Center GW Health, located on Pecan Street in Ward 8, with CEO Anthony B. Coleman, DHA, reporting to him.

Barrett is well regarded and embodies an energetic approach to leadership, bringing over 25 years of progressive experience in the healthcare industry. His strategic vision and outstanding leadership skills will be instrumental in driving operational efficiency, enhancing patient care and fostering collaborative relationships with the medical staff and employees.

Barrett joined GW Hospital parent company Universal Health Services in 2023 as CEO of subsidiary Northwest Texas Healthcare System in Amarillo, Texas. Under his leadership, NWTHS expanded its services to the community with the openings of Northwest Emergency at Eastern and Tascosa Freestanding Emergency Department — both earlier this year. NWTHS was recognized in the fall of 2024 as a High Performing Hospital for 2024-2025 by Newsweek.

Prior to UHS, Barrett served as an executive consultant at Guidewell. Previously, he held several leadership positions during more than two decades with Flagler Health+ — formerly Flagler Hospital — including appointments as Senior Vice President of Operations; Chief Operations Officer; Chief Integration Officer and Executive Vice President of Strategy; and then President and CEO.

Barrett earned his master’s degree in Systems and Engineering Management from Texas Tech University. He received both his Master of Business Administration and bachelor’s degree in Health Science, Health Administration from the University of North Florida.
