Gynecologic Surgeon

Maria Victoria Vargas

Maria Victoria Vargas, MD, MS, FACOG, is a gynecologist with the GW Medical Faculty Associates and an assistant professor with the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences. She completed subspecialty training focused on minimally invasive surgical procedures. This includes laparoscopic, robotic, and hysteroscopic gynecologic procedures, including myomectomy, pelvic prolapse repair, excision of endometriosis and total and subtotal laparoscopic hysterectomy.

She enjoys taking care of women with problems across the entire gynecologic spectrum, including fibroids, endometriosis, abnormal bleeding, abnormal pap smears, pelvic pain and Asherman’s syndrome. She also offers her patients flexible and rigid hysteroscopy, ultrasound, ESSURE© placement, colposcopy and LEEP procedures in the office.

Dr. Vargas’ professional interests include resident and fellow education and medical research. She has published her work in medical journals and has presented at national meetings for the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the American College of Obstetrician Gynecologists (ACOG) and the AAGL — the leading international medical association for minimally invasive gynecologic surgeons.

Dr. Vargas completed her specialty training at the Harvard Medical School affiliated Brigham and Women’s Hospital/Massachusetts General Hospital integrated residency program in obstetrics and gynecology. She went on to complete her fellowship in minimally invasive gynecologic surgery at George Washington University. She attended medical school at the George Washington University School of Medicine & Health Sciences, during which she was inducted into the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) Medical Honor Society. She completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Maryland in College Park.
