Helping Cancer Survivors Reach Optimal Recovery

At the George Washington University Hospital, we help cancer survivors heal through rehabilitation. While certain cancer treatments can save lives, long-term symptoms of fatigue, weakness, insomnia, memory loss, anxiety or depression can also have lingering effects on physical and emotional health.

Care for All Survivors

Whether you are beginning cancer treatment, finished your treatment or experiencing late effects or unresolved issues from past treatment, GW Hospital’s oncology rehabilitation program can help. In general, plans focus on increasing your strength, managing pain and improving mobility. According to the American Cancer Society, rehabilitation during and after treatment can:

  • Decrease nausea and fatigue
  • Improve muscle strength and function
  • Improve your balance and motion
  • Help you manage a healthy weight
  • Lower the risk of heart disease and blood clots
  • Decrease the chances of cancer reoccurring
  • Improve your mood and increase energy levels
  • Increase your self-esteem and independence
