Three Spiritual Care Residents Selected by the Education Committee

CONGRATULATIONS to Landis Vance,  Bonnie Berger and Sue Walters, our 2007-2008 recipients of the Spiritual Care Residency Program!

The Women's Board believes in the positive relationship between spirituality, health and healing and sponsored three Spiritual Care Residency positions this year to help serve the needs of the GWUH patients and families.

Among a group of very accomplished applicants, Landis, Bonnie amd Sue were selected by the Education Committee of the Women's Board as next year's Spiritual Care Residents and will receive a $5,000 stipend for the academic year. To provide continuity of coverage throughout the year, we will have one "summer" starter and two "fall" starting Spiritual Care Residents.

Landis is currently a doctoral student at the Union Institute and University pursuing an advanced degree in practical theology and health. She also serves on the faculty of the GW Institute for the Integration of Spirituality and Health, has been an associate chaplain at the NIH and served as our inaugural Spiritual Care Resident in 2006-2007. We are delighted to have her serve again in this capacity beginning in the fall.

Bonnie is an ordained interfaith minister whose previous experience as a diversity consultant as well as her passion for cultural, spiritual and religious differences will serve her well as a Spiritual Care Resident. She has been volunteering at GWUH for the past year and a half and will continue to work in the Chaplaincy staring in the summer.

Sue began her residency program in September 2007.  She will focus her efforts on Oncology, Labor and Delivery, and the Neo-Natal ICU.  She received her Masters of Theological Studies in May 2004 and has completed four units of pastoral care education towards Board of Certification with the Association of Professional Chaplains.  Sue has been a volunteer chaplain since August 2005.  She is continuing her studies towards Board Certification and is very excited about the opportunity to be a Women's Board Spiritual Care Resident!
