Sian L. Spurney, M.D. and Juan Reyes, M.D. Named Attending Physician and Resident of the Year at GW Hospital

January 16th, 2008
Congratulations to Sian L. Spurney, M.D., Hospitalist and Assistant Professor of Medicine, and Juan Reyes, M.D., Chief Resident for Internal and Primary Care Medicine who were recently recognized as the 2007 Physicians of the Year at the George Washington University Hospital.  They were chosen from among their peers after being named Physician and Resident of the Month.

Dr. Spurney is a 1997 graduate of the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and has been on the medical staff at GW for six years.  Remarks on Dr. Spurney's nomination forms included:  Dr. Spurney is one of the most compassionate physicians I have met.  Patient care is always her focus...she does all she can to help patients get the resources they need.  Dr. Spurney always makes herself available to employees and helps us get what we need for our patients.   She also helps the interns and residents tremendously and seeks out creative ways to provide better care and service to our patients.

Dr. Reyes also received much praise: Dr. Reyes is one of the best doctors at GW.  He takes the time to communicate with staff and explain any questions they have.  He always finds was to bring together all of the people involved in the patient's care so that the best outcomes will occur.

The GW Hospital's Physician Satisfaction Committee established the Physician of the Month contest to recognize one attending physician and one resident each month that embody service excellence.  At the end of the year, hospital employees and physicians were invited to vote for one physician in each category as physician of the year.  The physicians were recognized at a reception with their fellow nominees, their department chairs, hospital administration and nursing leadership.
