Free Concierge Service at GW Hospital Eases the Day for Physicians, Employees, Patients and their Families

March 14th, 2008

Best Upon Request Handles Nearly 350 Requests a Month

All one George Washington University Hospital patient wanted for her 99th birthday was a meal from KFC. So with the permission of her nurse, Best Upon Request lead concierge Eric Young dropped everything to make her wish come true. Or take the busy medical resident who wanted to do something thoughtful for his girlfriend for Valentine's Day but couldn't get away from work. Best Upon Request delivered both candy and flowers to her home on his behalf.

Patients, physicians, and employees at GW Hospital are no longer worrying about their growing "to-do" lists during work hours or their hospitalization. That's because GW Hospital offers an on-site concierge service, provided by Best Upon Request, to complete the tasks that busy people just can't find the time for like picking up dry cleaning, going to the post office, waiting in line at the Department of Motor Vehicles or making travel reservations. The concierge's time is free to the client. The only charge is when something is purchased.

"I have used Best Upon Request on several occasions and have found their services to be outstanding," said Mark Lerner, R.T., Director of Medical Imaging at the George Washington University Hospital. "From going to the shoe store or making copies of materials at Kinkos, they are a tremendous time saver."

Last month, Best Upon Request completed nearly 350 requests for GW Hospital clients. Mailing and shipping needs have dominated the service requests, over one-third of monthly services. In addition to running errands and research, they also offer discount tickets to exhibits, sporting events and theme parks.

"At Best Upon Request, our purpose is to serve people to the best of our ability with a smile," said lead concierge, Eric Young. "Its great to know at the end of the day I can leave GW knowing that I've had an impact on people's lives."
