GW Hospital Offers Knee Replacement Designed Specifically for Women
According to the National Center for Health Statistics, nearly two-thirds of the 400,000 annual knee replacements are in women, yet previous knee replacements have been designed based on a man's anatomy. Because men and women's knees can differ in size and shape, traditional knee replacements may result in a woman experiencing residual pain around her kneecap or having limited flexibility after surgery.
Recognizing the unique needs of women, GW Hospital was the first hospital in the District to offer the new Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee, which was introduced in May of 2007. The Zimmer Gender Solutions Knee takes into account the differences in a woman's knee by featuring a thinner profile, more natural movement and a contoured shape. These design features may result in a better fit, increased flexibility, less pain and more natural movement.
Ask a GW orthopaedic surgeon if the Gender Solutions Knee may be right for you.
