Cystectomy, the removal off all or part of the bladder, is traditionally performed using an open surgical procedure during which a surgeon makes a large abdominal incision to access the bladder. Conventional laparoscopy is a less invasive option, but due to the surgical instruments used, often limits the doctor's dexterity, field of vision and control, compared to open surgery.
Some bladder cancer patients may be candidates for the minimally invasive Robotic Cystectomy. The robotic-assisted cystectomy uses leading edge technology to help surgeons perform a precise operation through a few tiny incisions with enhanced vision, precision, dexterity and control.
This surgical approach offers several potential benefits to bladder cancer patients over traditional open surgery, including less pain, less blood loss, a shorter hospital stay, and quicker recovery.
