Anthony Unger, MDDirector Minimally Invasive Joint Replacement Surgery Program


Anthony S. Unger, MD is a Board Certified orthopaedic surgeon who specializes in joint replacement and associated hip, knee, and arthritis surgery. He graduated with high honors from SUNY at Stony Brook, and received his M.D. in 1980 from the University of Buffalo, where he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha medical honor society. After a residency in orthopaedic surgery at the University of Pennsylvania, Dr. Unger went on to complete a Comprehensive Arthritis Surgery Fellowship at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. He began his practice of orthopaedic surgery in Washington, D.C. in 1986, and is currently Associate Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at both George Washington and Georgetown University Medical Centers. He is consultant to the National Rehabilitation Hospital. Dr. Unger has an active surgical practice involving patient care, teaching, and clinical research at The Washington Center for Hip and Knee Surgery. He is the author of over 30 scientific papers and articles, a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, and a charter member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons. A member of the Eastern Orthopaedic Association, the AMA, the Washington Orthopaedic Society of D.C., Dr. Unger is a member of the Board of Directors of the D.C. Medical Society. He was listed by Washingtonian magazine as one of Washington D.C.'s top orthopaedic surgeons, and was a recipient of teaching award for orthopaedics at George Washington University in 2001.
