The Multidisciplinary Multiple Sclerosis Center
Multiple sclerosis (MS) and other variants of demyelinating disorders are major causes of neurological disability during a patient's most productive years. Patients with MS have a myriad of symptoms involving the motor, sensory, visual and cerebellar systems. Furthermore, fatigue, behavioral and, in some instances, cognitive symptoms currently are being recognized as serious components of the MS syndrome.
Because of the high complexity of symptoms, signs and disease course, patients with MS are better served in multidisciplinary clinics which focus on primary, secondary and tertiary symptoms.
The Multiple Sclerosis Center provides comprehensive care for patients with MS and other neuroinflammatory disorders.
The multidisciplinary team includes neurologists, urologists, gynecologist, a specialized nurse, a neuropsychologist, a clinical research coordinator, physical, occupational and speech therapists.
Patients are seen at the Ambulatory Care Center, at the corner of I and 22nd Streets, NW, 7th floor. After an initial evaluation with Dr. Mandler, multidisciplinary services are provided at the rehabilitation unit at The George Washington University Hospital.
