Clinical Neurophysiology Center

The neurophysiological monitoring capabilities available at the Clinical Neurophysiology Center benefit patients with learning disabilities, cognitive disorders, dementia, epilepsy, sensory disturbances of the peripheral and central nervous system and numerous other neurological conditions.

Center experts use specialized neurophysiological monitoring during cranial base surgery to gain critical information about patient status. By recording electrical signals at different levels of the neuraxis or at different muscle groups, they can detect adverse changes before complications arise. Surgeons then can use this information to alter the surgical technique in an attempt to prevent neurological deficits.

Other services offered by the Clinical Neurophysiology Center include quantitative EEG, psychometric testing and monitoring of visual, auditory, somatosensory, cognitive and motor evoked potentials. The Center staff also performs functional brain mapping, a technique involving the direct electrical stimulation and recording of brain wave activity in patients undergoing surgery for epilepsy, brain tumors, and vascular malformations.
