Vivek Deshmukh, MD, is a Endovascular and Vascular Neurosurgeon at The George Washington University Hospital, as well as an assistant professor of neurosurgery at The George Washington University. His clinical interests include cerebral aneurysms, vascular malformations of the brain and spinal cord, cavernous malformations, stroke, carotid artery disease, intracranial arterial stenosis and microsurgical bypass techniques. He offers expertise in general neurosurgery. His advanced endovascular neurosurgery training includes coiling of aneurysms and carotid stenting.

Dr. Deshmukh earned his medical degree from the University of Florida. He completed his internship in general surgery and a residency in neurosurgery at the Barrow Neurological Institute (BNI) in Phoenix, Arizona. While at the BNI, he obtained subspecialty fellowship training in complex spinal surgery, cerebrovascular and skull base surgery and endovascular neurosurgery.

He is one of the few neurosurgeons in the Mid-Atlantic region who offer both direct surgical and minimally invasive endovascular treatment of cerebrovascular disorders. He has published more than 30 peer-reviewed publications and multiple book chapters. His research accomplishments have been recognized with numerous awards and his laboratory focus is on translational research in the field of cerebrovascular disease.

Dr. Deshmukh’s professional memberships include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons and the Congress of Neurological Surgeons.
