James W. Leiphart, MD, Ph.D, is an assistant professor in the Departments of Neurosurgery and Anatomy and Cell Biology at The George Washington University. He specializes in epilepsy surgery, movement disorder surgery, surgery for complex pain syndromes, pituitary surgery, neuroendoscopy and various other spinal and brain surgeries. Dr. Leiphart earned his medical degree at Northwestern University Medical School. He completed his residency in neurological surgery and his internship in surgery at the University of California, Los Angeles. He pursued further training in epilepsy surgery as a fellow at Yale University.
Dr. Leiphart has received various awards and honors throughout his career including the “Young Investigator Award” for presenting research at the Workshop on Neurobiology of Epilepsy. Also he received the “Ronald Tasker Award”(Section on Pain) at the Congress of Neurological Surgeons’ Annual Meeting. In addition, Dr. Leiphart has been published in various journals including the Journal of Neurosurgery, Neuroscience Letters and Neuromodulation.
Dr. Leiphart’s professional memberships include the American Association of Neurological Surgeons, the Congress of Neurological Surgeons, the American Epilepsy Society and the American Medical Association.
