In 2005, 1.2 million men underwent cosmetic surgery procedures, such as liposuction. Pictured above are photos of a patient before and after his liposuction surgery.

Are you the guy sucking in your stomach in the family photo, or do the lines around your eyes add 10 years to your age? Thanks to the latest cosmetic surgery procedures available at The George Washington University Hospital, it’s possible to boost your confidence and regain some of your youth!

“Isn’t that just for women?” you may ask. No — according to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, 1.2 million men underwent cosmetic surgery procedures, including nose reshaping, liposuction and eyelid surgery, in 2005, a 44 percent increase from 2000.

“New techniques allow surgeons to do many of these procedures with minimal pain and scarring,” says Michael Olding, MD, FACS, Chief of Plastic Surgery at The George Washington University Hospital. “Also, 90 percent of patients who have had cosmetic surgery are satisfied with the results.”

His vote for the procedure that provides the most “bang for the buck” for restoring a youthful appearance: eyelid surgery that removes excess skin and fat from the upper eyelids. “It radically changes the appearance of the face,” he says. He adds that eyelid surgery and many other popular procedures can be performed on an outpatient basis, and patients usually resume normal activities in a few days.
